Darek is a graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology. He began climbing in the Tatras, then went on expeditions to Karakorum and the Himalayas. He has climbed Hagshu (Zanskar Himalayas – first ascent), Aconcagua, Mt McKinley, Ama Dablam, Gasherbrum II (1997 and 2006), Cho Oyu (2000), Lhotse (2001), Everest (2006), K2 (2011). He took part in winter expeditions to Nanga Parbat (1997/98), Makalu (2000/2001), K2 (2002/2003), Shisha Pangma (2003/2004 and 2004/2005) and Nanga Parbat (2006/2007), K2 (2017/2018). Filmmaker-amateur, makes his movies alone-from shooting to editing. The film about Anna Czerwińska “The Cases of Mrs Anna (2001) won awards at numerous mountain film festivals. The footage filmed by Darek during expeditions to Nanga Parbat and K2 has been used in films and television. His other movies: “Ciao Martina”, “Shisha in Winter”, “Everest”, “Move the Horizon”, “Annapurna in light style” and “Two on K2” were also awarded at many festivals. Most of his films were broadcast by the channel Planete.
