Świadomie w górach. Świadomie w podróży.

Jakub Urbański

Kiedy podejmujesz decyzję o podróży i dlaczego?

A niekiedy nawet sposób mówienia i zachowania.

In search of the longest cave in the world

Krzysztof Starnawski

In search of the longest cave in the world: exploring two huge cave systems on the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico: Sac Actun and Dos Ojos. For more than twenty years, many outstanding cave divers had tried to find a natural connection between the underground corridors, only after 20 years did they manage to do so – twice, but still none of the connections is possible to dive.  Therefore, it is  a great challenge in diving exploration of caves. The extreme sections of the Sac Actun (270km long) and Dos Ojos (79km long) systems are located only a dozen or so meters apart. If a natural underwater connection between them was found, the largest completely flooded and possible to dive cave system in the world would be created, with a total length of almost 350 km.

Red Bull X-Alps – one race, many challenges

Paul Guschlbauer

Paul Guschlbauer created himself a life full of adventures. He took his paraglider with him to conquer mountains all around the world but also flies his Bushplane to the most remote mountain locations in Alaska and South America. But every other year, there is a very special competition happening in the Alps that became his main challenge since 2011- Red Bull X-Alps. 32 Athletes from nations all around the world start in Salzburg and race to Monaco- traveling 1138 km only hiking or flying their paraglider. In 2019 Paul hiked avarage 4000 m vertical per day up to fly a total of more than 50 hours in a little more than 10 days.

«Strachu niet»

Dmitry Golovchenko, Eliza Kubarska

In eastern Nepal, in the Kanchenjunga Himal, lies famous for its steep walls Khumbakarna/Jannu (7710 m). Two Russian alpinists, two-time Piolet d’Or winners, Sergey Nilov and Dmitry Golovchenko spent 18 days on the mountain attempting a new route in alpine-style up the unclimbed east face. After heavy snowfall and in anticipation of incoming bad weather, after 13 days of action, the climbers made decision to retreat just below the final summit block, roughly 300 meters from the top. Though they did not reach the summit, Nilov and Golovchenko climbed the east face for the first time in history, reaching a high point of 7410 meters. After crossing the ridge, due to the great difficulties they encountered on their way, Russians decided to climb down by the French route from 1962.

The expedition was part of the film project «The Wall of Shadows» directed by filmmaker (and climber herself) Eliza Kubarska. When the team of Russians crossed the mountain, Eliza, with the help of Pasang Sherpa and Zosia Maruś (from the film crew), set off to meet them on the Yamatari glacier. Dmitry and Eliza were in constant radio contact. The race with time began. The supplies of food that Sergey and Dmitry took with them for a two-week climb were shrinking every day. The worsening weather and poor visibility made it difficult to find a way. The descent changed into a six-day epic.

How we have crossed the world, a few words about irresponsible tourism

Joanna Kądziołka

Points on the map to be checked, hundreds of identical photos, taken in a hurry and without much effort. This is the tourism of the XXI century, making what is valuable in terms of nature and culture disappear at an alarming rate. Is Zero Waste a rescue? How to travel (more responsibly), minimizing the carbon footprint we generate by flying planes, not wasting food, or reducing the consumption of hundreds of plastic packaging? You will find it in the lecture given by Joanna Kądziołka from the Polish Zero Waste Association.
